Meet Meghan Haines, LMHC-A, MSEd
I am a mental health counselor associate in Rhode Island, where I provide individual and group therapy to adolescents, college students, and adults. My areas of specialty are anxiety, depression, perfectionism, student mental health, impulsivity, relationship difficulties, and issues with self-esteem and identity.
I am committed to supporting and empowering my clients to grow and feel inspired to be their best selves. I strongly believe that therapy is a place to explore what in your life needs attention and support, and working together to determine what strategies will best enhance your life.
My Background
I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Rhode Island College. I received additional training through a clinical internship, where I worked as a substance use and addiction counselor, crisis intervention counselor and a forensics and jail diversion counselor, supporting clients involved in the criminal justice system.
I previously earned a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Hunter College in Manhattan and worked in that field for 17 years. I was a Kindergarten teacher at The International Preschool in Manhattan and a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at The Wheeler School in Providence. I believe my experience in early childhood education helps me to better understand my clients within context and throughout different stages of their life.
My Approach & Philosophy
I tend to align with the person centered and strength based theories of counseling and meet each client where they’re at in terms of their individual needs. My style is open and practical, utilizing a treatment approach that encompasses compassion, genuineness, and a trusting therapeutic relationship. I am eclectic in my approach and draw from my training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and solution focused brief therapy. I look forward to the opportunity to work together.
