Licensed Social Worker
Pronouns: he/him/his.
Meet Logan England, LICSW
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and offer in person and online therapy to primarily adults, but also youth, in Rhode Island. My areas of special interest include the treatment of anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, ADHD, ASD, life transitions, and grief. I also am committed to working with historically oppressed groups and marginalized individuals. I frequently work with individuals who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community on a variety of issues including gender exploration and affirmation.
I provide an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from a wide range of techniques and modalities in which I have training. I believe in empowering clients with the tools to continue their self reflection and make long lasting changes outside of the therapy room. I will often provide resources and the occasional “homework” for clients to practice coping skills, reflect on their emotional experiences, and explore meaning in between sessions.
Given my emphasis on skills work and helping clients to live most authentically, I tend to focus most on utilizing techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Narrative Therapy to best meet the needs of each individual.
My Background
I obtained my Bachelor and Masters Degrees in social work from Rhode Island College, where I was awarded the Anthony E. Ricci Social Work Practice award. During and after graduate school I worked at Thundermist Health Center for nearly a decade with the Transgender Health Team. I have also provide services at substance use treatment centers and youth-oriented programs in the region.
I am passionate about social justice work and improving training for future generations of clinicians. I have conducted trainings across the New England area on gender affirming care, serve as a member of the planning committee for the Rhode Island Trans Health Conference and volunteer for a legislative action group that emphasizes equity actions for all Rhode Islanders.
My Approach and Philosophy
I work from a person-centered approach because I believe therapy must take the whole person into account. This includes our cultural and spiritual beliefs and traditions, the institutions that have impacted our lives, our relationships, and what is happening in the world around us. Mental health does not exist within a bubble and developing an understanding of the impact of systems and developmental history are critical to building insight.
I strive to create a warm, authentic connection with my clients based on our shared humanity. I bring my genuine self to sessions and engage with clients around their hopes for therapy as well as their interests, sense of humor, creativity and imagination. I work collaboratively with clients to identify goals and develop a roadmap for therapy. Each individual must decide what wellness looks like for them and I support this process without judgment.
It is my hope to help clients embody their values and live their best lives. In addition to learning specific skills to regulate emotions or navigate difficult situations, I work with clients to explore meaning while in a safe space. I look forward to being part of your journey.
